Audit the President: No One Is Above the Tax Code Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent’s refusal to commit to mandatory IRS audits for Donald Trump and his support for an immunity deal are unacceptable. Under the law, the president and the first family have absolutely no right to tax immunity. Allowing any commander-in-chief to bypass standard financial oversight subverts the core democratic principle that nobody is above the law. Public officials should face the scrutiny everyday citizens face. The IRS mandatory audit program was designed explicitly to guarantee executive transparency and prevent conflicts of interest. Leaving these critical evaluations to political discretion creates a dangerous loophole for presidential overreach. I urge you to take immediate, efficient legislative action to cement mandatory presidential tax audits into law. Do not allow executive oversight to become an optional courtesy. Please push for clear, binding statutory guardrails that shield the IRS from political interference and mandate full accountability for the first family. Our system depends on a single standard of justice—ensure our tax system reflects that reality. If Bessent cannot manage that, remove him.
