Hold DHS, CBP & ICE Accountable: Congress Must Stop Unchecked Federal Power
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Casar

February 1
The pattern emerging from ICE, DHS, and CBP is no longer defensible as isolated errors. Federal immigration agents have detained U.S. citizens without reason, used force against people who posed no threat, and in multiple cases caused serious injury or death. Oversight has failed. Internal reviews have not stopped repeated abuse, and accountability has been slow or nonexistent. Agencies that hold this level of power over people’s lives must meet the same standards we expect of any law enforcement agency.
I am calling for urgent action. Congress must launch a full investigation into DHS, ICE, and CBP tactics, command decisions, and use of force, with subpoena powers and public reporting. Abusive practices must end now, not after another review cycle. officers and leaders who have broken the law or helped enable harm must be removed from their positions. Accountability is not optional, nor is it political. If federal agencies cannot operate within the Constitution, they must be restrained until they can.
