Since Russia’s unprovoked invasion in 2022, the United States has committed approximately $175 billion in aid to Ukraine, with $106 billion directly supporting the Ukrainian government. This substantial investment underscores our dedication to global stability and the defense of democratic values.
Recent developments, including President Trump’s contentious meeting with President Zelenskyy, have raised concerns about our unwavering support for Ukraine. Undermining our ally not only jeopardizes Ukraine’s sovereignty but also emboldens adversaries like Russia. Failure to stand firmly with Ukraine could result in greater costs, both financially and in American lives, should we be compelled to confront expanded Russian aggression in the future.
It is imperative that we counter misleading narratives suggesting Ukraine and President Zelenskyy are adversaries. Such misinformation distorts reality and weakens our strategic alliances. By reinforcing our support for Ukraine, we affirm our commitment to international law and deter authoritarian regimes from threatening global peace.
I urge you to advocate for sustained support for Ukraine and to challenge any rhetoric that undermines our alliances. Our proactive stance today is essential to prevent greater sacrifices in the future.
