I'm writing in regards to statements made about the UK'S Online Safety Act. While it's good to see members of the House and Senate express concern about censorship abroad, The issue is not isolated to the UK nor did it start there. Age verification laws in the United States have had a similar impact on online speech since Louisiana led states into passing laws that mandate much of what Congress is decrying. As a constituent I cannot help but notice that KOSA, IODA, the SCREEN Act, BlockBEARD, KOSMA, the PROTECT Act, FESTA and SOSTA, the APCA, and similar bills and laws act very much like the Online Safety Act in practice. While doing nothing to protect children, they enable bad actors and predators to commit crimes more easily, putting families at risk. Please oppose or repeal these laws and bills. Keep our families safe.
