I am writing to urge you to support a ban on child marriage in the United States. As you know, this is a serious issue that has devastating consequences for young people. According to a recent Newsweek article, nearly 300,000 children were married in the United States between 2000 and 2018. Child marriage is a form of child abuse that can lead to a number of problems, including domestic violence, health problems, and educational disadvantages. Since 2018, thirteen states have raised the legal age of marriage to 18. I urge you to cosponsor and support legislation that would ban child marriage nationwide.
