Your endorsement can shape NY’s future

To: Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Poughkeepsie, NY

August 15

I’m writing as a concerned and hopeful New Yorker to respectfully urge you to publicly endorse Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani as the next Mayor of New York City. His candidacy isn’t just another name in a long ballot—it’s a signal that a bold, equitable, and community-rooted vision for our city is not only alive but ascendant. Here’s why Mamdani stands out: 1. Progressive Leadership That Moves the Needle. Mamdani shocked the political world by defeating Andrew Cuomo in the June 24 Democratic primary with a decisive margin. He is currently riding high with about 44% support citywide, compared to Cuomo’s 25%, according to recent polling. 2. Momentum That Can’t Be Ignored. Endorsements have poured in from notable progressives—Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren—all recognizing his ability to rally working-class and diverse communities. 3. Backed by Organized Labor and Educators. The United Federation of Teachers, one of the city’s largest unions, officially endorsed Mamdani in early July. DC 37, NYC’s largest city‑worker union, followed suit. These endorsements base themselves in grassroots solidarity, not special interests. 4. A Bold Vision for Urban Justice. His platform includes fare‑free buses, universal childcare, a rent freeze, city‑owned grocery stores in each borough, affordable housing expansion, public safety reform, a $30 minimum wage by 2030, and equitable tax reform—like raising taxes on richer, whiter neighborhoods. ⸻ Why Your Endorsement Matters Right Now • Amplify a Movement. Your support would legitimize a platform rooted in equity and systemic change. It’d be a signal that New York values leadership that reflects the lived experiences of all its residents—not just the wealthy few. • Frame the Stakes for November. A public nod from you would energize diverse voter coalitions and reinforce that Mamdani’s success isn’t just an upset—it’s the way forward for NYC and beyond. • Show Federal-State Unity. It would demonstrate the federal delegation’s commitment to affordable housing, equity, sustainability, and expanded public services—issues your voices already champion. ⸻ The Ask Please, Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand: consider issuing a statement of endorsement for Zohran Mamdani for NYC mayor before the November election. Your voices can help shift the narrative from “politics as usual” to “a city reborn for working people.” Thank you for listening, leading—and doing what’s right.
