Two billionaires, Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks, are attempting to exert undue influence over Texas politics through their massive financial contributions. Their agenda of Christian nationalism poses a threat to the separation of church and state and could undermine democratic principles. We must resist the efforts of a few wealthy individuals to reshape our government according to their narrow ideological views. Their vision of a highly militarized border, religious indoctrination in public schools, opposition to abortion rights, and opposition to LGBTQ rights is at odds with the values of an inclusive and pluralistic society. A functioning democracy requires protecting the integrity of our institutions from capture by special interests. We cannot allow billionaires to transform Texas into a theocracy that imposes their beliefs on all. It is crucial that our elected representatives uphold their duty to serve all Texans, not just the wealthy few pushing this radical agenda.
