Block Funding for Forest Service Reorganization

To: Rep. Gomez, Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff

From: A verified voter in Los Angeles, CA

April 4

I need you to block all funding for the Forest Service reorganization that would relocate headquarters to Salt Lake City, shut down ten regional offices, and dismantle more than fifty research facilities across thirty-one states. This isn't reform. It's deliberate destruction. When the BLM headquarters moved during the first Trump administration, 87% of staff were lost. Of 328 positions ordered to relocate, only 41 employees moved at all. That wasn't failure—it was the goal. Purge career professionals, replace them with political appointees, and hand control to industry. The research loss alone is catastrophic. Decades of watershed studies, old-growth monitoring, and place-based ecological research cannot be relocated to Fort Collins. When these facilities close, the experiments die, the datasets end, and the institutional knowledge disappears. This is the most respected forestry research program on the planet. Salt Lake City was chosen because Utah is actively suing to seize 18.5 million acres of public land. Governor Spencer Cox already signed an agreement giving Utah control over eight million acres of national forest. Senator Mike Lee has spent his career trying to dismantle public land protections. This move puts a logging executive and fifteen political appointees in charge of 193 million acres that belong to all Americans. Demand congressional oversight. Stop the funding. Protect the agency.
