Disastrous cuts to NPR will hurt American citizens of all ages

To: Rep. Thompson, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick

From: A verified voter in Bellefonte, PA

August 20, 2025

I received an email this morning from my senator that contained a video clip explaining why he supported supports to NPR. The explanation I received was that the network has become two left-leaning. No examples were provided to support this explanation. I am assuming that the complaints are centered around news programming on the network, but I don't agree with tha; however that is an assumption I am making since there were no examples provided. It doesn't appear to me that anyone considered the educational and entertainment programming provided by NPR in its affiliates. My children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have been enjoying NPR programming since the 1970s. I, myself, watch drama, comedies, and concerts on a regular basis. Just the other night I watched a concert that I know I could not afford on my own. It doesn't appear to me that anyone in the President's I office or the Republicans in Congress considered the amount of programming devoted to education and entertainment when compared to that devoted to news. The difference is quite substantial. I resent the fact that something so valuable to the citizens of this country is being taken away, along with cuts to health care, veterans benefits, and food assistance, to provide tax cuts to the wealthiest in our country. I also don't believe that consideration was given to the types of services provided by networks affiliated with NPR and public broadcasting during emergencies. I worked for a rural radio station that provided emergency services during disasters and harsh weather conditions when other information streams were not available. If this is taken away, it will be devastating to individuals living in those communities. It is my hope that something will be said or something will happen so that my senators and representative will wake up and realize the damage that the passage of this bill has done to their constituency.
