Congressional letter: Pass the Stop Comstock Act
I am an Illinois constituent urging Congress to protect reproductive freedom and prevent the Comstock Act from being used as a backdoor national abortion restriction.
Please support and actively advance S.951 and H.R.2029, the Stop Comstock Act. Congress should remove the obsolete language that could be used to criminalize or obstruct the mailing and transportation of abortion medication, miscarriage medication, contraceptives, and reproductive-health equipment.
I also ask Congress to:
Hold immediate oversight hearings regarding reported plans by the Department of Justice, FDA, HHS, and White House to restrict mailed medication abortion.
Prevent DOJ from adopting an unprecedented interpretation of the Comstock Act to override the laws of states that protect abortion access.
Protect telehealth prescribing and pharmacy dispensing of FDA-approved medication.
Protect patients, providers, pharmacists, manufacturers, and delivery services from politically motivated prosecution.
Preserve the FDA’s ability to make medication decisions according to medical evidence rather than religious or ideological pressure.
To my senators: Please cosponsor S.951, demand a Judiciary Committee hearing and vote, and oppose Todd Blanche’s confirmation.
To my representative: Please cosponsor H.R.2029, demand action from the House Judiciary and Ways and Means committees, and use congressional oversight authority to investigate the administration’s plans.
Medical decisions belong to patients and qualified healthcare professionals, not politicians or federal prosecutors.
Please provide a written response stating whether you support the Stop Comstock Act and what you will do to advance it.
