I am writing to demand immediate action following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and U.S. citizen, by a Border Patrol agent on January 24 in Minnesota. This killing of an American citizen exercising his constitutional rights requires the strongest possible response, including criminal prosecution of the agents involved and impeachment proceedings against those responsible for authorizing these operations.
Alex Pretti was a registered nurse at a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical center in Minneapolis, where he treated veterans. Federal officials labeled him a "domestic terrorist" and claimed he intended to "kill law enforcement," yet multiple videos from bystanders and a sworn declaration from a physician witness directly contradict this characterization. The witness stated that Pretti "did not brandish a weapon of any kind" when he approached agents. Instead, videos show him approaching officers with his phone. He had a legal permit for his firearm.
The witness saw an agent shove Pretti to the ground before at least four ICE agents pointed guns at him and shot him "at least six or seven times." After the shooting, agents failed to administer standard first aid like checking for a pulse or performing CPR, but instead "appeared to be counting his bullet wounds." This conduct suggests deliberate indifference to human life and potential evidence tampering.
This is the second fatal shooting by immigration authorities in Minnesota in recent weeks, following the killing of Renee Nicole Good, 37. The pattern of lethal force against American citizens exercising their First Amendment rights demands accountability at the highest levels. I urge you to support criminal murder charges against the agents who killed Alex Pretti and to initiate impeachment proceedings against Secretary Kristi Noem and President Trump for authorizing these unconstitutional operations that have resulted in the deaths of American citizens on American soil.
