Save Gas with Telework!

To: Sen. Tuberville, Rep. Strong, Sen. Britt

From: A verified voter in Huntsville, AL

March 9

I am writing to urge your support for restoring telework and hybrid work options for federal civilian employees. As you know, telework was recently halted under DOGE and the Department of War for all civilian personnel, despite the substantial economic and operational benefits it previously provided. One of the most immediate impacts of eliminating telework has been the sharp increase in commuting costs. For many employees, the ability to work from home even part‑time translated into meaningful savings on gas and vehicle wear—relief that matters greatly in a period of rising household expenses. Telework also reduced traffic congestion, lowered strain on public infrastructure, and contributed to cleaner air, all while agencies continued to meet mission requirements effectively. The federal workforce has already demonstrated that productivity and continuity of operations remain strong under well‑managed telework policies. Reinstating flexible work options would not only support employees but also strengthen government efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs. I respectfully ask that you support legislation and oversight efforts that encourage agencies to reinstate telework where it is practical and mission‑appropriate. This is a commonsense, cost‑saving measure that benefits workers, agencies, and the public. Thank you for your time and for your continued service to our state.
