Demand a full, independent investigation into the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican immigrant killed by ICE agents while driving to work in Houston earlier this month. DHS has refused to release any information about the incident and appears to be actively blocking both Justice Department and local law enforcement from conducting their own inquiries. That is a cover-up, and you need to say so publicly and act on it.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo spent 35 years in this country building a business, employing dozens of workers, and raising three sons who attended the University of Houston, Tufts University, and college today. He had been actively working to regularize his immigration status for 18 months, submitting paperwork, fingerprints, and references. He was not a fugitive. He was on his way to work. His family is asking for any video or images from the scene, because the government won't tell them what happened to their father.
The DHS inspector general has already added this case to a backlog of over 600 misconduct complaints. That backlog is not accountability. Use your oversight authority to demand answers, push for an independent investigation, and make clear that federal agents cannot kill people and then hide behind bureaucratic silence.
