Since the Supreme Court struck down Trump's tariff scheme as illegal, the American people are due a refund of the monies they paid as tariffs. Some members of the Supreme Court have indicated those refunds would cause a "mess". This is an opportunity for you to step up and be our voice regarding those refunds. If the companies who passed the tariff charges on to their customers are refunded without a requirement they pass the money back to the customers who paid them in the form of higher prices they will be double-dipping by being repaid the tariffs charged, once by the customers they passed the costs on to through their pricing, and again through the government refund of the illegally collected tariffs. This problem can be easily solved through Congressional action. Since companies keep records of customers purchases, they are in a position to be able to pass the tariff charges back to the customers who paid them. You can draft and pass a law requiring the Treasury to refund the money to the companies, and requiring the companies to directly rebate the customers who bought the items where tariffs were charged. It could take the form of either a check to the customer, or a credit toward a future purchase from the company for anything they sell, whether the originally tariffed item or anything else. This would be an actual return to the injured customers and make them whole with regard to the illegal tariffs. It would project a positive image of Congress working to benefit Americans, whether someone purchased an item requiring a rebate or not. It would also caution companies and other entities against acting too quickly when assuming questionable, and the questions began as soon as the proclamation was introduced as a possibility, legal action by Presidential fiat will hold up in court. While I am not a politician or a lawyer, I don't see a down side in this for Congress. Please take the matter under advisement. Thank you for your service to our country and your constituents.
