Trump made the same promise at rally after rally, on tape. August 2024 in Pennsylvania: “Energy costs, all of it, air conditioning, heating, all of it, including gasoline, will drop by more than 50% within the first 12 months.” October 2024 in Detroit: “12 months from January 20th, your gasoline is going to be 50% cheaper. That’s a big thing.” September 2024 in North Carolina: “Mark it down, and you can get very angry at me if we don’t do it.” Gas was $3.12 a gallon when he took office. It’s over $4.00 today. Electricity bills rose 6.7% in 2025. Natural gas prices jumped 37%. Not one energy category costs less than it did on January 20, 2025. Then, on February 28, 2026, Trump bombed Iran without a congressional vote. Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. Twenty percent of the world’s oil disappeared from global markets. Brent crude hit $112 a barrel. Gas jumped $1.16 in a single month. The IEA called it “the greatest global energy security challenge in history.” Inflation hit 3.3% annually in March, the highest since May 2024, and could reach 4% by year’s end. On top of that, Trump’s illegal tariffs cost the average American household $1,500 in 2025. No tariff relief has been offered. A record 55% of Americans now say their financial situation is getting worse. Americans voted for lower prices. They got a war and a tax. Require a congressional vote to authorize any military action that disrupts global energy markets. Suspend tariffs on energy inputs and essential consumer goods for the duration of this conflict. Expand LIHEAP funding now to help families absorb rising utility costs. Demand a negotiated end to the Iran war. Trump told voters to get angry if he didn’t deliver. We are. And you should be too.
