I’d like your opinion and your plan of action in response to President Trump’s preemptive strike on Iran. Make no mistake, like our president, I also viewed Iran as a supporter of terror activities directed toward western countries. I also am opposed to a country that supports terror developing nuclear capabilities. Differently from our president, I respect the balances of power in our country giving Congress the sole power to wage war.
Without the official go ahead from Congress, our president joined with Israel on a mission whose time table seems to have been decided by Israel to deliver a tremendous bombing of Iran and apparently take the lives of Iran’s Supreme leader and other top officials. The president and his spokesman have been very sketchy on whether they’re calling it war.
It sounds like war to me. It sounds like our president declared and initiate war without permission from Congress. I know he met with some of you in private last week. I can imagine he announced his intentions.
I’d like to know if you thought he acted illegally. Was it impeachable? I’m not in favor of pulling out of Iran now. That’s above my purview. I do believe this action could become grounds for impeachment. I’d like your opinion.
It seems the best course of action now is public dissent of Trump’s decision, announcement of an intention to impeach and a focus on the midterm elections with the aim of regaining the House and Senate, impeachment and conviction.
If you share that plan, I wish you luck. Thank you for your service.
