Oppose unchecked centralized data platform over privacy risks

To: Rep. Tokuda, Sen. Hirono, Sen. Schatz

From: A constituent in Kula, HI

June 2

The centralized federal data platform proposed by the current administration and Palantir raises significant privacy concerns for me and millions of Americans. Consolidating sensitive personal records from agencies like the IRS, Social Security Administration, and immigration databases into a single AI-powered system creates an unprecedented level of surveillance. While the stated goals of detecting fraud and improving public safety could be useful, I'm terrified that granting a private tech company unfettered access to such a vast trove of private data is deeply troubling. This system has the potential to violate civil liberties and enable misuse of personal information on a massive scale, with little transparency or accountability. There are legitimate fears it could enable targeted monitoring, immigration crackdowns, or even politically-motivated abuses of power. I strongly urge you to oppose this contract and push for robust public oversight, clear legal safeguards, and meaningful privacy protections before any such centralized data platform moves forward. The risks of enabling unchecked government surveillance outweigh any purported benefits at this stage. Defending our privacy and civil liberties must be the top priority. I appreciate all your hard work for your constituents.
