Reject discriminatory transgender healthcare bill

To: Rep. Tran, Sen. Harrell, Gov. Kemp

From: A constituent in Atlanta, GA

February 5

This proposed legislation in Georgia poses a grave threat to the healthcare rights and wellbeing of transgender individuals and their families. Denying coverage for gender-affirming care under state health plans and prohibiting state facilities from providing such services is a discriminatory and harmful policy. Transgender people deserve access to the medically-necessary care they need, just like anyone else. Gender-affirming care is vital for the health and wellbeing of many transgender individuals and has been endorsed by major medical associations. This bill's findings referencing a previous lawsuit settlement suggest an alarming attempt to roll back established rights through legislative means. Families should not have to bear the high costs of gender-affirming care out-of-pocket or be denied these services altogether due to this legislation's overly broad prohibitions. The right to access appropriate healthcare, free from discrimination, must be safeguarded for all Georgians, including transgender people. I urge you to stand against this discriminatory bill and protect the rights of transgender individuals and families to access the full range of medical care they require. A fair and just society ensures equal access to healthcare, not creates additional barriers based on gender identity or expression. Please vote no on this misguided legislation that compromises the wellbeing of some of our most vulnerable community members.
