Defend national parks, protect wildlife from exploitation

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick, Rep. Deluzio

From: A constituent in Coraopolis, PA

April 27

The administration's recent actions to open public lands to industrial exploitation endanger sensitive ecosystems and the wildlife that depends on them. Plans to allow drilling and mining in national parks and monuments put vulnerable species at risk of habitat loss, pollution, and other threats that could push them closer to extinction. From the majestic bison to the smallest pollinators, our parks preserve biodiversity and provide refuges for flora and fauna to thrive. However, rollbacks of environmental protections and cuts to science-based conservation programs undermine decades of work to recover threatened and endangered species found within park boundaries. If carried out, these misguided policies will have devastating impacts on the very wildlife that helps make our parks wondrous places to visit and explore. Compounding these threats, the administration has also proposed cutting park ranger positions that are vital to monitoring wildlife populations and educating the public about conservation efforts. By firing the very personnel tasked with protecting our parks, the administration shows a blatant disregard for preserving these natural treasures. I urge you to defend the original purpose of our National Park System as sanctuaries where nature is revered, not ravaged by extractive industries. Listen to the American people who overwhelmingly want our parks and the species they harbor to be protected, not exploited. Park wildlife does not have a voice, so we must speak up to ensure these remarkable creatures have a future.
