An Open Letter

To: Sen. Hirono, Sen. Schatz, Rep. Tokuda

From: A constituent in Kapaau, HI

February 19

I am writing to urge you to vocally and actively support the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), an agency that plays a crucial role in protecting consumers from financial abuse, fraud, and predatory practices. The CFPB has been instrumental in holding corporations accountable, securing billions in relief for wronged consumers, and ensuring fair practices in banking, lending, and credit industries. Attempts to weaken or dismantle the CFPB would have dire consequences for everyday Americans. The agency enforces critical regulations that protect against deceptive lending, excessive fees, and discriminatory practices. Without a strong and independent CFPB, consumers would be left vulnerable to financial exploitation by powerful corporations and predatory lenders. Furthermore, the CFPB’s work is particularly vital as families continue to navigate economic challenges. It ensures transparency in financial products, helps prevent another financial crisis like the one in 2008, and provides resources for consumers to make informed financial decisions. I urge you to not only oppose any efforts to weaken or defund the CFPB but to also publicly affirm its importance. Please stand with consumers by advocating for the agency’s continued strength and independence. Thank you for your leadership and attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your response.
