Oppose Senate Budget! Harms the Poor, Rewards the Rich, Undermines Democracy

To: Sen. Collins, Sen. King

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

June 18

I am writing in strong opposition to the Senate budget bill. The sum of its provisions is staggering: the poorest Americans are projected to lose $1,600 per year under this bill—an amount that is life-changing for those already struggling to make ends meet—while the wealthiest, including the top 0.1%, stand to gain hundreds of thousands annually. At the same time, the bill: • Slashes Medicaid and SNAP, pushing more Americans into medical and food insecurity; • Enriches the wealthy through permanent tax cuts and corporate windfalls; • Strips public wealth by expanding the sale of public lands; and • Undermines democracy by requiring bonds to be posted to challenge the executive branch, giving any administration unprecedented power to avoid legal scrutiny. This is not fiscal responsibility. It’s an upward transfer of wealth and power, at the expense of the most vulnerable and the foundations of our democracy. Please stand against this bill.
