I am writing to urge you to oppose the unchecked expansion of data centers across Pennsylvania. As you know, communities throughout our Commonwealth are pushing back — and with good reason: • Energy burden: Data centers place enormous strain on the electric grid, threatening to raise electricity bills for everyday Pennsylvanians who cannot afford to subsidize Big Tech's infrastructure. • Water consumption: These facilities consume massive quantities of water for cooling, directly threatening drinking water supplies — including along the Schuylkill River near proposed sites in Upper Merion Township. • Quality of life: Residents in King of Prussia, Montour County, Springdale, and communities across the state are rallying against constant low-frequency noise, light pollution, and the industrialization of their neighborhoods. • Inadequate jobs: Despite promises, data centers create very few permanent jobs relative to their enormous footprint and resource demands. • Lack of oversight: Over 150 data center proposals are active or pending statewide, yet the Senate has stalled regulatory bills that passed the House — leaving communities without meaningful protections. Sixty-eight percent of Pennsylvanians oppose data centers in their communities. I urge you to support a moratorium on new data center construction — as Sen. Katie Muth has proposed — until robust statewide regulations are in place to protect our water, our grid, and our neighborhoods. Thank you for your leadership and attention to this urgent matter.
