I am writing as a South Dakota constituent to ask for your help and support for Nate Samudzi, a member of a family I care about deeply.
Nate has lived in the United States since he was four years old. This is his home. He has spent virtually his entire life here. His wife, Sydney, and their young daughter, Nikita, are here. His job, church, friends, and community are here. The United States is the only home he has truly known.
Nate and Sydney have been working through the immigration process with the goal of making the United States their permanent home. I understand that immigration cases can be complicated and involve legal circumstances that I may not fully understand.
What I do know is that Nate has built his entire life here, and I believe he deserves the opportunity to remain with his wife and daughter and continue pursuing citizenship in the country he has called home since childhood.
Nate was detained by ICE in February while he and Sydney were getting off a plane in St. Louis. He was later released and allowed to return home to South Dakota under specific conditions, including remaining in the state, checking in regularly with ICE, and allowing home visits.
To my understanding, Nate complied with those conditions.
He was recently taken back into ICE custody after being instructed to appear for a scheduled check-in. He was subsequently released, but ICE is continuing to pursue his removal from the United States.
I am asking you to please use your position and your constituent-services resources to support Nate and his family and to help ensure that he has the opportunity to remain in the United States and continue his path toward permanent residency and citizenship.
I understand that you cannot personally determine the outcome of an immigration case. I am not asking you to circumvent the law or interfere with the courts. I am asking you to look at the circumstances of this particular person: someone who came to this country as a four-year-old child, has spent virtually his entire life here, has complied with the conditions imposed on him, and now has a wife and young daughter whose home and family are here.
Nate isn’t asking to start a new life in the United States. He has already lived his entire life here.
Please do whatever you can to support Nate Samudzi’s ability to remain in the United States with his wife and daughter and continue working toward citizenship.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for anything your office can do to help Nate and his family.
