Prioritize people over corporations - vote no on spending bill.

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer

From: A constituent in New York, NY

March 12

Allowing the continuing resolution funding bill to be approved will give the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) six months to continue undermining crucial government agencies and programs including the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Environmental Protection Agency, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. While averting a government shutdown is important, this spending bill represents a missed opportunity to prioritize the needs of the people over corporate interests. The bill's provisions risk exacerbating economic inequality by extending tax breaks that disproportionately benefit the wealthy and large corporations. At a time when many Americans struggle with rising costs of living, we should instead be focused on policies that uplift working families and create opportunities for economic mobility. Furthermore, the lack of bipartisan negotiation in crafting this legislation is concerning. Important spending decisions should not be made unilaterally but through compromise and dialogue between both parties to ensure the needs of all constituents are addressed. By voting against this bill, you can send a strong message that future spending measures must put the wellbeing of everyday Americans first. Responsible governance demands we reject stopgap solutions in favor of comprehensive reforms that build an economy that works for everyone, not just the privileged few. I urge you to be a voice for the people and vote no on advancing this flawed legislation.
