Overturn Citizens United and Ban Coerced Political Funding
To: Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters, Rep. Bergman
From: A constituent in Beulah, MI
August 29
I am writing as your constituent to demand an immediate legislative overhaul of federal campaign finance and corporate lobbying laws. Government representatives must answer directly to the American people—not foreign-aligned organizations, corporate monopolies, or billionaire mega-donors. The doctrine established in Citizens United v. FEC falsely equates financial expenditures with free speech. Money is not sentient—it is an economic multiplier used as an extension of individual and corporate power. When corporations and executives funnel consumer-generated revenue into political campaigns, millions of working Americans are subjected to coerced political funding—forced to indirectly underwrite political agendas they actively oppose simply by purchasing basic goods and services. To close systemic campaign finance loopholes, protect consumer rights, and restore democratic integrity, I urge you to introduce and support legislation to: 1 Overturn Citizens United & Ban Coerced Funding: Propose and pass a Constitutional Amendment declaring that money is not speech, corporations are not people, and Congress has full authority to ban corporate treasury campaign spending, eliminate dark-money Super PACs, and end forced political funding derived from consumer transactions. 2 Close Foreign-Influence Loopholes: Amend 52 U.S.C. § 30121 to prohibit domestic political action committees, corporate subsidiaries, and non-profits from making political expenditures if they receive foreign parent funding or coordinate policy with foreign principals. 3 Enforce Mandatory FARA Registration: Require immediate registration under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA, 22 U.S.C. § 611 et seq.) for any political action committee or lobbying organization whose primary objectives mirror the diplomatic or legislative goals of a foreign power. 4 Bar Human Rights Violators' Money: Enact strict statutory ethics bans barring federal candidates and sitting officials from soliciting or accepting political campaign contributions from entities associated with foreign powers or corporations undergoing credible investigation for severe international crimes and human rights violations. 5 End the Revolving Door & Paid Lobbying: Enact a lifetime ban on former members of Congress becoming paid corporate lobbyists, prohibit lobbyists from bundling campaign contributions, and close all reporting loopholes under the Lobbying Disclosure Act. Public service must prioritize people over profit. End legal corruption, protect citizens from forced political funding, and restore government accountability strictly to the voters.
