The SAVE Act will disenfranchise millions. I know that’s exactly what you want so I’m not sure how to convince you that disenfranchisement is unconstitutional
My mother, who gave up her maiden name at marriage in the 1970s and has never left this country, will be unable to vote. She doesn’t have a passport and her married name certainly isn’t on her birth certificate. Her father served in Korea and Vietnam. Until this recent election, she usually voted republican.
But how to get you to care?
Sure, I have trans friends who won’t be able to vote now, and that’s really what you’re going for with SAVE.
But with this act, you’re going to disenfranchise millions of regular Americans, those who have no need for or can’t afford passports, married women (especially older married women), people who simply don’t have access to original documents like birth certificates.
This is the point, I know.
Do you realize that the road SAVE is leading us down ends with no one being able to vote? You absolutely do.
I strongly protest your support of the SAVE act. Do better.
