Vote No on $1 Billion White House Ballroom Funding in Reconciliation Bill

To: Sen. Kelly, Rep. Stanton, Sen. Gallego

From: A constituent in Tempe, AZ

May 5

Vote no on the budget reconciliation bill that includes $1 billion for the White House ballroom project. This is fiscal insanity. A project originally priced at $200 million with promises of private funding only has ballooned to $1 billion in taxpayer money. That's not a security upgrade—that's a money grab. The White House repeatedly promised taxpayers wouldn't pay a dime for this ballroom. They concealed donor identities and watched the price tag climb from $200 million to $250 million to $300 million to $400 million. Now Republicans want to hand over $1 billion of our money for what was supposed to be privately funded. Meanwhile, this same bill ignores Democratic reform measures proposed after Renee Good and Alex Pretti were shot and killed in Minnesota. If we can't afford healthcare, education, or infrastructure that actually helps working families, we cannot afford a billion-dollar ballroom. Voters oppose this project 2-to-1. Listen to us. Strip this wasteful spending from the reconciliation bill or vote the entire thing down.
