Subject: Vote No on FISA Extension 2026

To: Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin, Rep. Krishnamoorthi

From: A verified voter in Des Plaines, IL

March 25

I am writing as a constituent to urgently request that you vote NO on any "clean" extension or reauthorization of FISA Section 702 that comes to the floor in 2026. With Section 702 set to expire on April 20, 2026, it is unacceptable for Congress to pass another extension without implementing meaningful, structural reforms. The current warrantless surveillance of Americans’ communications has exceeded its purpose and must be curtailed. (Brennan Center for Justice) Specifically, I am asking you to oppose any FISA bill that does not include: A Warrant Requirement: A mandatory warrant to access Americans’ data collected through Section 702. A Ban on Data Buying: A prohibition on the federal government purchasing sensitive, private information about Americans from data brokers without a warrant. Congressman Warren Davidson (.gov) "Clean" extensions simply authorize the FBI, CIA, and NSA to continue accessing Americans' emails, texts, and calls without oversight, creating a "backdoor search" loophole that infringes upon our Fourth Amendment rights. (New America) Wartime necessities or intelligence gathering, such as those mentioned regarding Iran, do not justify violating the fundamental privacy rights of US citizens. (WIRED) We need real surveillance reform, not another temporary fix that perpetuates the surveillance state.
