I know the funding for DHS lapses on Friday, and we need you to hold the line and unify around a strong set of demands for reining in ICE. I understand that Senate Democrats are saying you will block the DHS funding bill that would give even more money to ICE. This is a critical first step, but it’s not enough when they’re still rolling in cash from that One Bill Terrible Bill.
Many of the proposals we've seen floated on the Hill don't do enough to protect our communities from ICE and Border Patrol. We need you to make sure that you don't accept empty reforms, such as leadership changes, and call that a win. We are grateful that Senate Dems are finally taking on this fight, but we won't get serious restrictions on ICE unless we demand them.
As a constituent, I'm urging you not to support any DHS funding bill that gives ICE and Border Patrol more funding, or fails to rein in their many abuses. We need to end CBP deployment in our cities, stop family detentions, and prohibit ICE and CBP from targeting people based on ethnicity and place of employment. And that’s just for starters. Can’t we reallocate all that excessive DHS funding to re-fund the ACA? Only one of these will make America better, and you know which one.
