Disruptive and nonsensical tariffs imposed by the current administration are wreaking havoc on the national and global economy. These tariffs, amounting to a multitrillion dollar tax increase on Americans, are already causing immense economic turmoil - stock markets have suffered their worst performance since the pandemic, recession fears are growing, and businesses will be forced to raise prices to offset new import taxes. While the president has limited authority to impose tariffs during national emergencies, these tariffs appear to be an abuse of that power in yet another attempt to bypass Congress. Trade policy falls squarely under Congressional authority as outlined in the Constitution. Bipartisan legislation like the Trade Review Act of 2025 must be passed to rein in this destructive overreach and reclaim Congress's constitutional trade authority. These economically disastrous tariffs simply must be stopped before further damage is inflicted on American jobs, businesses, and consumers. I urge you to take immediate action to reign in this unilateral policy that threatens economic stability.
