Holding Trump Accountable: Insider Trading and Economic Harm to Small Businesses

To: Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Miller, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Donnellson, IL

April 10

I am writing as a concerned citizen and constituent to urge you to take all necessary steps to hold Donald J. Trump accountable for any violations of federal law, including credible allegations of insider trading. No individual—regardless of status or influence—should be above the law. If Trump or any of his associates used non-public information to enrich themselves while betraying the public trust, Congress must support a full and transparent investigation and, if warranted, refer the matter to the Department of Justice. I am also deeply concerned about the ongoing effects of Trump’s tariffs, which have disproportionately harmed small businesses. While major corporations had the resources to wait out the economic turbulence or pass the costs along to consumers, countless small business owners were left struggling. Many have been forced to lay off workers, scale back operations, or close entirely. These policies have widened the gap between large corporate interests and the small businesses that form the backbone of our local economies. As your constituent, I ask you to stand up for fairness, transparency, and accountability. Whether it’s holding powerful individuals responsible for financial misconduct or correcting policies that hurt everyday Americans, I urge you to act boldly and decisively. Thank you for your service and attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing what steps you will take to address these critical issues.
