Today, people inside detention centers from Dilley to Delaney Hall to North Lake (MICHIGAN) are risking their health through hunger and labor strikes to expose abusive conditions and demand freedom for their families. Families inside detention centers are reporting rotten food, unsafe water, lack of medical care, and serious physical and psychological harm. Children and parents are being separated, and people are being detained for months without timely due process.
At Saturday's weekly protest against the proposed detention facility in Romulus, I heard witnesses tell heartbreaking stories of immigrants who had done everything right to stay in this country and are suffering, without proper representation, in Baldwin’s North Lake center.
I’m calling on you to stand with these families and do everything in your power to meet the demands of the hunger and labor strikers, shut down North Lake and all detention camps, and release families and children now.
As my legislator you have the power to conduct oversight and publicly expose conditions inside detention centers. Do so now! History will not be kind to lawmakers who do nothing. Thanks.
