An Open Letter

To: Sen. Warnock, Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Johnson

From: A verified voter in Atlanta, GA

March 18

The SAVE act places in undo burden on women, married women, immigrants, naturalized citizens, poor people, adoptees, those born in rural areas. Those born before digital records, A drivers license should be enough to vote. A voter ID card should be enough to vote. Voting is a right. You don’t need to show proof of citizenship to buy a gun or a hunting license or a car and none of those things does it matter what it says on your birth certificate that your last name is. This is insane. This is voter suppression. I have had three last names. My maiden name, my first marriage, and my second marriage,. My oldest daughter has been adopted by my second husband. My husband has his stepfather‘s last name and had a name change at 18. I have immigrant neighbors who cannot collect original birth certificates easily. Passports are expensive and they expire.
