End the War in Iran—Reject Funding and Stop the Escalation Now

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer, Rep. Jeffries

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

March 24

I am writing to demand immediate action to end U.S. involvement in the war in Iran and to oppose any funding that would sustain or escalate this conflict. In the past 24–48 hours, this war has intensified significantly. Large-scale strikes have continued on Iranian territory, while the conflict expands across multiple fronts, including Lebanon. Retaliatory missile and drone attacks are increasing, and the risk of a broader regional war is no longer hypothetical—it is actively unfolding. Global energy markets are already destabilizing as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz disrupt supply, driving up costs that will be felt by civilians around the world. The damage being done now will reverberate for years. This is not contained to the battlefield. The economic consequences are immediate and global—higher energy prices, supply chain disruptions, and rising costs of living that will hit working people the hardest, both in the United States and abroad. At the same time, the environmental impact of a war of this scale—targeting energy infrastructure, industrial sites, and dense urban areas—will be immense and long-lasting. And yet, the administration is preparing to request staggering levels of funding—reportedly around $200 billion—to continue this war. This is a profound misuse of public resources. At a time when Americans are already struggling under rising costs—housing, groceries, energy, healthcare—this administration is choosing to pour vast sums into an escalating war. Social services are being cut. Working people are being asked to carry more and more of the burden of basic survival. Meanwhile, the wealthy continue to accumulate power and profit, and defense contractors stand to gain from the unchecked flow of public money into war. This is not just bad policy—it is reprehensible. Americans do not want this war. It is deeply unpopular, widely opposed, and increasingly seen for what it is: an illegal and immoral escalation that Congress has not authorized and the public does not support. Congress cannot remain passive. I urge you to: • Publicly and unequivocally oppose any funding for the war in Iran. • Vote against any appropriations that would sustain or expand this conflict. • Reassert Congress’s constitutional authority and demand an immediate end to unauthorized military engagement. • Call for immediate de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution. • Use your platform to clearly communicate the real costs of this war—human, economic, and environmental—to the American people. This war is not making Americans safer. It is making the world more dangerous, more unstable, and more unjust. It must end.
