Bring Home Afghan Allies Stranded By US In Qatar And Stop The Plan To Deport Allies To The Congo
To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer
From: A constituent in Woodside, NY
April 26
The Department of Homeland Security must immediately fulfill our promise and bring the Afghans stranded in Qatar to the United States. These interpreters and family members of US service members have been stuck at Camp As-Sayliyah for a year after we evacuated them for their own protection. They risked everything for us.
More than 700 women and children are in this group, including between 100 to 150 family members of active-duty service members. Sending them to the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country with 8.2 million displaced people and decades of violent conflict, is unconscionable. Returning them to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan means death.
According to AfghanEvac, no law prevents these qualified Afghans from entering the US. This is a policy choice, not a legal barrier. Bring them home as we promised.
