Reject FISA Reauthorization Without Section 702 Reforms

To: Sen. Schatz, Sen. Hirono, Rep. Tokuda

From: A verified voter in Kula, HI

June 15

I urge you to demand substantial reforms to Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act before supporting its reauthorization. Specifically, I ask that you withhold your vote unless the following amendments are included: Close the Backdoor Search Loophole. Current law permits government access to Americans' personal communications without a warrant. This practice must end to safeguard fundamental privacy rights. Close the Data Broker Loophole. Intelligence and law enforcement agencies must face the same warrant requirements when purchasing data from commercial brokers as they would when conducting direct surveillance. With AI capabilities expanding rapidly, this protection is critical to preventing mass government data collection without judicial oversight. As artificial intelligence advances, the risks of warrantless mass surveillance grow exponentially. Our constituents deserve robust privacy protections and meaningful civil liberties safeguards. I urge you to stand firm and reject any reauthorization of Section 702 that does not include these essential reforms.
