I am writing to urge you to oppose any efforts to privatize the United States Postal Service. Recent proposals to overhaul and privatize the post office would be disastrous for Americans, particularly the 50 million residences in rural areas where private delivery services would find it less profitable to operate.
The Postal Service delivers essential items including medications, food, legal documents, and voting ballots to every address in America, regardless of location or income level. Privatization would effectively end rural postal service and dramatically raise costs for everyone else. Private companies operate on profit margins and would have no incentive to maintain universal service to less profitable routes.
Access to mail delivery should not depend on where people live or their income level. The post office exists as a public good to serve people, not to generate corporate profits. Allowing private equity firms and global corporations to dismantle this essential service would enable billionaires to profit while leaving millions of Americans without reliable mail delivery.
Federal postal employees and their families depend on these jobs, and rural communities depend on this infrastructure. The Postal Service has served this country for generations, connecting Americans across vast distances and ensuring that every citizen has equal access to communication and commerce.
I ask that you publicly oppose any privatization efforts and work to protect the United States Postal Service as the essential public institution it has always been. Our communities need you to stand firm against proposals that would dismantle this service in favor of corporate profit. Please confirm your commitment to maintaining the USPS as a public service accessible to all Americans.
