Stop Unauthorized Military Aggression Against Venezuela

To: Sen. King, Sen. Collins, Rep. Pingree

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

September 4

I strongly condemn the illegal sinking of a Venezuelan boat by U.S. forces. This attack was carried out without Congressional authorization and violates both U.S. and international law.   Congress must reassert its constitutional authority over war powers and prevent Donald Trump, Senator Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, or anyone else from pushing unauthorized military actions. We demand that Congress:                   1.              Publicly condemn the sinking of the Venezuelan vessel.                   2.              Investigate who ordered or encouraged this illegal act.                   3.              Reinforce the War Powers Resolution to prevent future unauthorized use of force.   Unchecked militarism threatens the safety of our nation, the stability of our hemisphere, and the credibility of American democracy. We urge you to act immediately.
