Reject Todd Blanche's Nomination and Investigate DOJ Misconduct

To: Sen. Cantwell, Pres. Trump, Sen. Murray, Rep. DelBene

From: A verified voter in Bothell, WA

August 3

Reject Todd Blanche's nomination as attorney general and launch a serious investigation into the Department of Justice's pattern of grand jury misconduct. The DOJ has become a weapon for Trump's personal vendettas, and the Senate has both the power and the obligation to stop it. Blanche was Trump's personal criminal defense lawyer before being handed control of the DOJ. He has since secured indictments against Trump's perceived enemies, including former FBI director James Comey — for posting a photo of seashells on Instagram. The Secret Service was directed to rush a summary of Comey's interview to Trump on Air Force One. That is not law enforcement. That is a political hit operation. Judges across the country are now openly questioning whether DOJ lawyers can be trusted to tell the truth, calling their behavior "unlawful," "unethical," and "unseemly," according to a July 28 ProPublica investigation. Blanche also put his name to a deal creating a $1.776 billion slush fund to benefit January 6 convicts, paired with a promise not to prosecute Trump or his family for tax crimes. U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams ruled that deal was filed to "manipulate the judicial process." The Senate must block this nomination and demand accountability — not just a verbal assurance in a confirmation hearing that evaporates the moment Blanche is confirmed.
