Please:
Remove speaker Johnson and legislate to protect TPS.
The speaker is supposed to defend the constitution and serve the people.
The speaker's constitutional role is NOT to be the boss of a protection racket, least of all should he defy the will of the people expressed in our elections.
But look (h/t Robert Hubbell):
"Johnson told attendees at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference on Friday
"If we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats, y’all impeachment’s not even the big concern. They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they’ll go after the president’s family, the cabinet, his donors and friends; half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. I’ll take care of you. We’re going to win the midterms."
As a fellow member of Congress who swore the same oath to the constitution, I know you "remember that the Speaker of the House is one of the few officers mentioned in the Constitution. As the head of the House of Representatives, the Speaker acts on behalf of the people of the United States. But Johnson has made clear his prime objective is to protect Republicans from accountability for their corruption and violation of their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution...."
Johnson's statement is an egregious betrayal of the rule of law, Democratic representation and the founding principles of our republic. He is not fit to remain as speaker.
And remember, as the saying goes: if you can't do the time don't do the crime. Congress should stop enabling a regime of war crimes, human rights violations, defiance of court orders and betrayals of the constitution.
Please, DO YOUR JOB.
Also: SCOTUS has now become an activist legislature dismantling precedent and the constitution.
I ask you to vote for Rep Moulton's bill responding to the shocking TPS decision from the Supreme Court.
Rep Moulton's legislation will be introduced on Monday: it is called the *TPS Relief Act* and will immediately overturn that decision.
If you don't understand the urgency of this moment please read about Hitler's Germany and pause to reflect on your own forebears who came here in search of safety and opportunity.
