REJECT the CHOOSE Act

To: Sen. Roberts, Gov. Ivey, Rep. Carns

From: A verified voter in Birmingham, AL

April 8

I’m writing to demand Alabama schools reform. My public education within the Beauregard county school system was a disgrace. I gained nearly zero knowledge of history and fell behind my college peers at Auburn in my first year when pursuing an engineering degree. My high school principal was a joke and teachers (some excellent) are still drastically underpaid. The CHOOSE act won’t cut it. If you must privatize schools, go ALL THE WAY. Reduce taxes so drastically that working class and poor families can afford good quality schools too. Tax breaks for the rich who can already afford day care and private schools won’t help the vast majority of the citizens of our state. We need education excellence if you expect high paying jobs to be created in our state and not just factory work. OR why don’t you actually get funds from the state lottery like GA instead of holding on to antiquated principles against “gambling.” Who cares!!? Use the funds to provide mental health support for gambling addicts (and all addicts while you’re at it), PLUS fund schools so we don’t always fall in 49th place in rank for education. VOTE NO on CHOOSE. Figure out a better idea, why don’t you!?!! That’s what you’re elected for, do your job! Stop following dumb Trump movements and get creative with real solutions!! Kay Ivy - you were a teacher. Act like one and recommend something that helps all of your constituents!
