The SAVE Act is an unnecessary measure that will unjustly hinder millions of eligible Americans from exercising their fundamental right to vote. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud to justify erecting such stringent barriers to voter registration. Requiring citizens to present a birth certificate or passport in person places an undue burden, especially on vulnerable groups like women, the elderly, low-income individuals, and communities of color who are less likely to possess these documents. This legislation disproportionately impacts over 21 million Americans without ready access to proof of citizenship, 140 million without passports, 69 million women whose maiden names differ from their birth certificates, transgender individuals whose identification may not align with their legal name and gender, and disabled voters already facing difficulties at the polls. It would even hinder overseas military members from registering. Rather than safeguarding elections, the SAVE Act appears calculated to disenfranchise legal voters under the guise of election integrity. I urge you to reject this thinly veiled attempt at voter suppression and oppose the SAVE Act. Upholding free and fair access to the ballot box for all eligible citizens should be the priority, not erecting unnecessary obstacles that undermine our democracy. Protect the voting rights of your constituents and all Americans by voting against this bill.
