Demand Full Transparency and Accountability in Epstein Files Investigation

February 10

I am writing to demand immediate action on the Epstein files investigation and accountability for all officials implicated in this scandal. The contrast between European governments and our own response is deeply troubling and undermines public trust in American institutions. Following the January 30 file release, multiple European nations have taken decisive action. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer fired Ambassador Peter Mandelson after files revealed Mandelson called Epstein's release from jail after a child prostitution conviction "liberation day." Morgan McSweeney, Starmer's chief of staff, resigned over recommending Mandelson for the post. Norway is investigating former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland's relationship with Epstein. France is investigating former cultural minister Jack Lang for financial ties to Epstein. Sweden's Joanna Rubinstein resigned after visiting Epstein's island in 2012. Meanwhile, our government has failed to provide full transparency. The Trump Justice Department was late complying with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, didn't release all files, and heavily redacted those released. Representative Jamie Raskin reviewed unredacted documents and found "lots of examples of people's names being redacted when they were not victims," calling some redactions "suspicious and baffling." One redacted email to Epstein read "Thank you for a fun night… Your littlest girl was a little naughty" with the sender's name withheld despite only victims' names supposed to be protected. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick faced bipartisan calls for resignation after multiple appearances in the files. Senator Adam Schiff stated that "Lutnick's lies about his business dealings with a convicted child sex offender raise serious concerns about his judgement and ethics." Representative Melanie Stansbury identified "more than three dozen associates, family members and individuals directly associated with Donald Trump in those files" and accused the government of "an active cover-up." I urge you to demand the Justice Department release all unredacted Epstein files with only victim names protected, support independent investigations into all implicated officials regardless of party or position, and call for the resignation of any official who lied about their Epstein connections. Our constituents deserve the same accountability standards applied in Europe.
