I am writing to you today as a constituent to express my deep concern regarding the current processing delays for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewals at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
As of May 2026, many DACA recipients are facing extreme wait times that far exceed previous standards. For example, a close friend of mine has now been waiting almost six months for her renewal to be processed. During this time, she—like thousands of others—faces the imminent risk of losing her work authorization and legal protection, despite having filed her application in a timely manner.
Current median wait times have surged to over four months, with many cases like my friend's stretching much longer. These administrative delays force Dreamers out of their jobs and create unnecessary instability in our communities.
I respectfully urge you to:
1. Demand increased transparency from USCIS regarding current backlogs and staffing shortages.
2. Advocate for streamlined processing to ensure that renewals are completed within the agency's goal of 120 days.
3. Support policies that prevent DACA status from expiring due to agency delays, such as starting the renewal period on the date of previous expiration rather than the date of approval.
Our community relies on the contributions of DACA recipients. I ask that you use your office's influence to ensure USCIS prioritizes these renewals so that my friend and others can continue to work and live without fear.
Thank you for your time and for your commitment to serving.
