I commend you for the stand you took last week, along with five other Republican senators , to limit the President’s ability to take military actions at will. You are the only one of the five facing reelection this year, so it is especially praiseworthy. I urge you to follow this step by speaking out against, and where appropriate, taking action against, the many other ways he is abusing his office and our country. Turning ICE into an updated Gestapo, denying funds to states that voted against him, threatening the Federal Reserve Bank’s integrity and independence, … The list goes on of all the ways he has seized power, and bragged about it. Masha Gessen, the journalist who witnessed the rise of Putin in Russia and Orban in Hungary, says that authoritarianism is coming on faster here than it did in either of those states, and that the time left to save democracy is dwindling. Please act strongly, emphatically, and above all, NOW. Thank you.
