Urgent: Only a Clean CR for All Will Prevent Catastrophic Harm
To: Sen. Warnock, Sen. Ossoff
From: A constituent in Woodstock, GA
October 20, 2025
I am writing to you as a constituent deeply concerned about the ongoing government shutdown and its increasingly devastating impact on public servants, families, and essential services — especially public health infrastructure. While I appreciate your leadership and your commitment to protecting the people of Georgia, I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to pass a clean, full continuing resolution that funds the entire federal government, not a piecemeal or politically calculated version. We are now 20 days into this shutdown. The senate continues to waste time and taxpayer money voting on recycled bills that have no path forward, while critical programs are being suspended, public health agencies like the CDC are being gutted, and the federal workforce is being used as a bargaining chip. And there is no way to bring back the house who also is wasting out money in vacations (30 days of no work but on a paid vacation). Federal employees are not a monolith, they are scientists, health educators, analysts, inspectors, clerks, case managers, IT specialists, public safety workers, and parents. Many of them are your constituents. These are the people who work every day to ensure services continue for the rest of us. They are already stretched thin, and now they’re facing lost pay, lost healthcare access, and potential job loss. I understand that some colleagues are proposing partial measures, for example, funding only military pay while leaving the rest of the government shut down. This cannot happen. It is unacceptable to divide the federal workforce into “deserving” and “disposable.” Funding only select agencies or workers will further weaken morale, deepen inequity, and prolong the crisis. If the Senate agrees to that, it sends a message that the rest of our public servants don’t matter. What must be done: • Do not support any funding measure that excludes civilian federal employees. • Reject political games and pass a clean CR that funds all departments equally and fully. • Act quickly — before open enrollment begins on November 1. Delaying subsidies or healthcare action beyond this week will render efforts meaningless and cause real harm to Georgia families. • Defend agencies like CDC and HHS from sabotage-by-shutdown. Prevention cannot be paused. These institutions are vital to both health and national security. • Stand strong against House obstruction. Their tactics are already hurting the people you represent — and Friday’s actions show they plan to continue. We cannot offset the damage already done, but we can stop it from getting worse. Please continue to stand firm in defending the full federal workforce, protecting public health infrastructure, and restoring faith in good governance. This is not theater. This is real life, real work, and real loss. The people need you to act.
