I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent decision by President Donald Trump to dismiss General Charles Q. Brown, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Brown has served with distinction and dedication to our nation's military, and his leadership has been crucial in guiding the United States Armed Forces through complex and volatile global challenges.
The role of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is one of immense responsibility and authority, serving as a critical advisor to the President and helping to ensure our national security. General Brown's professionalism, commitment, and experience have earned him the respect of both military personnel and civilians alike, and his removal from office raises significant concerns about the future stability of our military leadership and the integrity of our defense institutions.
The decision to dismiss such a high-ranking military leader, particularly without clear, public justification, undermines the principle of civilian control over the military while also potentially weakening the cohesion and readiness of our armed forces. I am troubled by the message this action sends to our service members, as well as to our allies and adversaries around the world.
As my representative, I urge you to address this issue in the strongest possible terms. It is critical that we maintain a military leadership that is focused on national security and free from political interference. I encourage you to ensure that any decisions regarding military leadership reflect the best interests of our country, our service members, and our democratic values.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I look forward to your response and to your continued advocacy for the strength and integrity of our nation's military.
