Defund and Dismantle ICE I am writing to demand that you immediately defund and dismantle Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). A recent ProPublica report exposes the systemic, unlawful operations of this rogue agency. The article highlights the harrowing case of Leonardo Garcia Venegas, a U.S. citizen who has been unconstitutionally targeted, tackled, and shackled by ICE agents three separate times. Despite presenting a valid REAL ID, his rights were completely ignored. Shockingly, that same week, masked agents tackled another American teenager in the Bronx, leaving him bloodied and bruised. Worse yet, recorded audio shows top ICE leadership downplaying these violations, with the outgoing head of the agency even admitting that these baseless arrests operate as "a deterrent." ICE is intentionally targeting U.S. citizens and individuals who have committed no crimes. This is a blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment. An agency operating with such blatant contempt for civil liberties cannot be reformed. Do not fund ICE. I urge you to take immediate legislative action to shut down ICE. If they cannot abide by our Constitution, the organization should not exist. Our communities deserve safety and constitutional protection, not state-sanctioned harassment.
