Exercise Congressional Oversight for any U.S. Military Action in Venezuela

To: Sen. Collins, Rep. Pingree, Sen. King

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

October 19, 2025

I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to support the pending legislation that would require explicit congressional authorization before U.S. Armed Forces may engage in hostilities against or in Venezuela.   Such legislation is essential to reaffirm Congress’s constitutional role in decisions of war and peace. Military involvement in Venezuela risks destabilizing a fragile region, endangering civilian lives, and diverting critical resources from domestic priorities. The American people deserve transparency and debate before a commitment of our forces abroad. This bill provides necessary safeguards so that such grave decisions cannot be made unilaterally. Supporting this measure would reinforce the spirit of the War Powers Resolution and strengthen democratic accountability.   I respectfully ask that you stand with your constituents, uphold congressional oversight, and vote in favor of this legislation.   Thank you for your attention and your service to our state.
