Trump’s Personal Legal Bills Aren’t Taxpayer Charity—Stop Funding His Court Battles I am writing to express my outrage over Donald Trump using the Department of Justice, the Supreme Court, and taxpayers’ hard-earned money to escape accountability for his personal misconduct. According to recent reporting, the Justice Department is actively urging the Supreme Court to toss an $83 million defamation judgment awarded to E. Jean Carroll. Government lawyers are relying on the Westfall Act to argue that defaming a private citizen after being accused of sexual assault falls within the "official scope" of the presidency. It is completely unacceptable for public resources to be deployed as a personal legal defense shield for the president's abhorrent conduct. The DOJ exists to uphold justice for the American people, not to absorb personal liability for a politician’s private misdeeds. I urge you to take immediate action to curb this blatant abuse of power and ensure federal agencies and tax dollars are never misused to shield presidents from personal accountability.
